Description

 ideabots

1st-3rd Grade session is full

1 spot available in 4th-6th Grade session
6/17-6/21

By the end of this brand new camp, robots will be running amok. A week entirely of robotics gives older and younger camps a hands-on chance to build their own creations. We are thrilled to have older campers get their hands dirty (and wet!) with  SeaPerch. Our younger campers will get a complete introduction to the world of robotics by building robots from the ground up—learning about everything from pressure sensors to effectors. And, of course, they’ll build their very own alien or bug robot.

Ancient Civilizations
6 spots left
6/24-6/28
Journey back in time! We use the tools from times past to discover how innovations in different cultures came about. Campers explore ancient civilizations by experimenting with ancient discoveries. In Ancient Egypt, we build pyramids, learn hieroglyphics and dig for Pharaoh's treasure. In Ancient Greece we learn about Odysseus’ adventures and study Demeter’s plants and Poseidon’s seas. And in Ancient Rome, we make ice cream with Nero (legend has it he invented it!) and build Mt Vesuvius and watch it erupt.

 Chemical Reactions
FULL

7/1-7/5

Don your lab coats and grab a beaker. Campers are the chemists in this exploration of substances changing their chemical identities. We spend the week experimenting with a range of different chemical reactions. From simple kitchen chemistry, such as sugar crystals, to awe-inducing reactions, like elephant toothpaste. Campers leave with an understanding of how chemistry and change make up the world around us.

No class on 7/4 - camp price prorated.

ideagamers

7/8-7/12

The kids asked and we listened! By the end of this camp, kids will have built an arcade game from the ground up. And the small and big games that will turn the ideaventions™ exhibit area into an arcade in September!

Our project teams will consist of the game developers (Scratch for our younger campers and Game Maker for our older team) and arcade cabinet engineers and graphic designers. Of course, we can always design and develop mechanical games.

Rocketry and Space Exploration

FULL
7/15-7/19
An out of this world adventure! Campers learn about rocket design, then build and launch their own. We’ll learn about Space, plan a trip to another galaxy, plan and build a space colony, using our planetarium software we’ll learn about galaxies, nebulae, super novas, and stars. As space explorers, campers will explore astronomy - design and build a satellites, create remotely operated vehicles, investigate planetary geology, and rocket science - as we build and launch rockets.

7/22-7/26

By the end of this brand new camp, robots will be running amok. Note: Due to requests to hold ideabots after the end of school for FCPS, we have replaced Science of Sport, which was scheduled to run this week, with ideabots.

Operation Spy
FULL

7/29-8/2

Your mission: uncover the science behind the gadgets and methods used by top secret spies. The undercover adventure includes building our own spy gear, learning to make and break codes, and using science and technology to complete our secret missions. Learn electronics to create alarm systems, explore exotic places and cultures, practice the art of disguise and deception to fulfill secret missions. Explore electricity, GPS navigation, lasers, chemical reactions, and world cultures.

The Science of Super Heroes
FULL

8/5-8/9

We become super heroes for the week! As we put on our capes and masks, we uncover the science super heroes – from the gadgets in the Batcave to the flight of Superman. Each day is a new adventure as we explore a different super hero each day. We learn about the electronic gadgets they use, properties of flight, how their super vehicles work while we fight crime.

Astrobiology: Out of this World Science
7 spots left

8/12-8/16

Are there signs of life on other planets? The emerging field of Astrobiology explores just that, combining the study of evolution, geology, biology, astronomy, and much more. All aimed at discovering microbial life—or even more developed life—in the hidden corners of the universe. Campers explore the basis for life, the reason the earth is habitable, and hypothesize the probability that life in the universe is solely on earth.

Engineering Challenge
FULL

8/19-8/23

Imagination and creativity fuel this week-long engineering challenge. We investigate amazing engineering creations and the science behind them. From electricity to engines, buildings to machines, we will explore the world of engineering and energy through hands-on experiments and hand-made inventions. In our laboratories, students will design and build structures using geometric principles, learn about the forces acting on them, experiment with engines to power their own vehicle creations, learn about energy transfer and conversion through chemical reactions and build a chain-reaction invention.

Innovation Lab
FULL

8/26-8/30

Eureka! Travel back in time, as we invent and have a blast in our inventor’s laboratories. Perform experiments recreating important inventions from the past. And after uncovering innovations from the past, who knows what new inventions await? Amazing discoveries are welcomed each day as we perform exciting experiments in biology, physics, and chemistry.
